- 01What is the Bhabhi card game?
- Bhabhi is a shedding card game played with a standard 52-card deck, popular across India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Players must follow the suit that was led; the aim is to empty your hand. The last player still holding cards loses the round and is called the Bhabhi.
- 02How do you play Bhabhi?
- Deal the whole deck out evenly. Whoever holds the Ace of Spades leads first. Going clockwise, each player must play a card of the suit that was led. The highest card of that suit wins the trick and leads the next one. Empty your hand to get out safely.
- 03What is a Thulla in the Bhabhi card game?
- A Thulla is an off-suit card played by someone who cannot follow the suit that was led. It ends the trick immediately — nobody after them gets to play. Whoever played the highest card of the original suit must pick up the entire pile and add it to their hand.
- 04What happens if you can't follow the suit?
- If you have no cards of the led suit, you may play any card in your hand. That off-suit card is called a Thulla or tochoo, and it stops the trick on the spot. The player winning the trick so far collects every card played into it.
- 05Who wins and who loses in Bhabhi?
- There is no single winner in Bhabhi — there is a loser. Any player who empties their hand is out and safe. Play continues until one player is left holding all the remaining cards. That player loses the round, and most tables today call them the donkey.
- 06Is Bhabhi the same as Thulla, Getaway and Donkey?
- Yes. Bhabhi, Thulla, Getaway, Laad, Donkey, Bhabho, Kazhutha, Kalutai, Tochoo and Cangkul are regional names for the same game. The core rule is identical everywhere: follow the suit if you can, and if you can't, your off-suit card ends the trick.
